About The
Creek
CAVE CREEK is a small, meandering stream located two hours from Denver, in an area my family and I have been fly fishing and hiking for years. The trail leading to the creek is accessed off Weston Pass road between the historic towns of Fairplay and Leadville, Colorado. It’s the true Colorado high country experience to walk the path along the creek and take in the dense aspen groves, Columbines and scenic mountain valley views. Come up and spend a day. You’ll be glad you did.
About the Cave
Originally discovered in 1898 and then subsequently buried and then rediscovered a couple times, Cave Creek Cavern is one of the best kept secrets in Colorado. The cavern, at 10,500 and 3 miles from the closest road, is not easy to get to though. After a difficult 2 mile hike on game trails you will need to scamper up an almost vertical old abandoned mine tailing field and then down into dangerously tight 80 foot tunnel to enter the cave. The Cave Creek Cavern “Big Room” is the biggest cave room in Colorado at 250 feet in length, 90 feet tall and 60 feet wide. Once inside its awe inspiring. Make sure you bring plenty of rope and courage.
