About The Creek

About The Cave
Originally discovered in 1898 and then subsequently buried and then rediscovered a couple of times, Cave Creek Cavern is one of the best kept secrets in Colorado. The cavern is at 10,500 feet and 3 miles from the closest road, so its not easy to get to. After a difficult hike on game trails with steep drop-offs you will need to scamper up an almost vertical old abandoned mine tailing field and then down into a dangerously tight 80 foot tunnel to enter the cave. The Cave Creek Cavern “Big Room” is the biggest cave room in Colorado at 250 feet in length, 90 feet tall and 60 feet wide. Once inside its truly awe inspiring.  Make sure you bring plenty of rope and courage.
